UNITED STATES - REVENUES Revenue Stamps
1871 Third Issue, 2c orange and black, center inverted, horizontal block of six, unused with slightly disturbed original gum, well centered and fresh, v.f. This is the largest recorded multiple of the 2 cent Third Issue Revenue Invert. It is also the largest original gum block of any 19th Century United States Invert. According to the most definitive source on revenue multiples, there exists this block of six, three blocks of four, and two pairs of the 2c Third Issue Invert in multiples. This block is the largest and finest known, with a clean 2002 PFC (at one point in the past it was described with a tiny thin, but there is none, and the Philatelic Foundation certificate confirms its sound condition)

1871 Third Issue, 2c orange and black, center inverted, bottom sheet margin block of four, unused with slightly disturbed original gum, pencil notations and very fresh, top right stamp with a tiny, natural paper translucency of no importance, fine and rare multiple. According to the most definitive source on revenue multiples (see www.thecurtiscollection.com), there exists a block of six (see previous lot), three blocks of four, and two pairs of the 2c Third Issue Invert in multiples. This block is the only one with sheet margin, ex-Whitman and Fay collections, with 2002 PFC
