 | Lot #1052 NICARAGUA Province of Zealaya - Cabo Gracias a Dios 1904-05 (Bluefields), also known as the "Mosquito Coast". Cabo Gracias a Dios is a cape and seaport town in the extreme northeast of Nicaragua. Special postage stamps were necessary in both places, because for a period of time, the currency there was worth more than the national currency of Nicaragua. Silver currency was used in Zelaya and Cabo Gracias a Dios, white the rest of the country used paper money. The Mosquito Coast has had a turbulent history, with Spanish, British and American involvements. The stamps from this area are among the most interesting areas of philately.
