1901 "Vineta" Provisional, surcharged "3PF" on horizontal pair comprising of left and right halves, tied by "Deutsche Marine Shiffspost 23/4/01" pmk on "S.M.S. Vineta" picture postcard, posted at "Bahia" 21.IV.01 and addressed to Wilhelmshaven, some card abrasions, the stamps v.f., signed Diena etc., with 1953 Alberto Diena and 1996 Jakubek certificates. A wonderful example of this double provisional handstamp on appropriate ppc from Brazil. In 1901 the S.M. Cruiser "Vineta" made a goodwill tour to the West Indies and South America. The ship happened to be in port at New Orleans at the time of Kaiser's Birthday. The celebrations of the crew were given special coverage in the press, but the ship sailed before a supply of newspapers was delivered to the crew. These newspapers caught up with the ship in Port of Spain, Trinidad and the crew wanted to send copies of the newspapers back home to Germany. Naval personnel was given the privilege of sending mail home at domestic German rates no matter what part of the
