1899 Russian 3k card uprated by 1k, sent from Kastries (Sakhalin) to Germany, written in pencil, text partially erased, faint strikes "Alexandrovskoye Kastri Aug 6 1899", with Nikolayevsk and Nagasaki transits and German arrival, fine usage from Sakhalin. Originally Chinese territory, Sakhalin was partly held by Japan until 1875, and again after the Russo-Japanese War. South Sakhalin was administered by Japan as Karafuto-cho, with the capital Toyohara
