RUSSIA - AUTOGRAPHS
Nicholas, I, Tsar (1796-1855), illuminated Grant of Nobility, on vellum in Russian and Polish, awarding a title to a Mikolaj Skrobecky, dated April 21, 1840, 4 pages, folio manuscript on vellum (410x270), with printed imperial Eagle and Coat of Arms of flaming cannonball surmounted by broken arrow and stars, with decorative plumed crown in gouache and gilt. Text is in two columns, in it the tsar of All Russia and the King of Poland bestows the title, with an official coat of arms to a Captain of the Guards of the former Polish Army (one of very few such grants to the former Polish officers), the final leaf signed by Nicholas I and W.Plonikowski, Secretary of State. A beautiful document. The oppressive policies of Nicholas I, led to a bloody rebellion in 1831, which was crushed by the tsar, with Russification of Poland and disbandment of the Polish Army.

Stalin, Joseph (1879-1953), single page letter (jocular in spirit) in blue and red Cyrillic letters, dated March 22, 1939, headed "Order No.10", "ordering" Stalin to go to the movies in the evening, and signed "the boss" (Svetlana); Stalin replies at bottom "will comply with the order, poor J.Stalin." A fascinating personal letter from Stalin's daughter Svetlana written as the official "order" and signed by Stalin, with 2000 Official Government Archive Certificate
