NICARAGUA Province of Zealaya - Cabo Gracias a Dios
1893-1912 Province of Zelaya (Bluefields) is also known as the "Mosquito Coast". Cabo Gracias a Dios is a cape and seaport town in the extreme northeast of Nicaragua. Special postage stamps were necessary in both places, because for a period of time, the currency there was worth more than the national currency of Nicaragua. Silver currency was used in Zelaya and Cabo Gracias a Dios, white the rest of the country used paper money. The Mosquito Coast has had a turbulent history, with Spanish, British and American involvements. The stamps from this area are among the most interesting areas of philately. We are pleased to present a major, specialized collection, written up exhibition style and housed in seven volumes, with 4,800+ mostly unused stamps (including multiples, usually complete settings of the surcharge), perf. and occasional imperf. varieties of overprints and surcharges, with all major issues listed (for example Scott's No. 1L107D block of four) and unlisted or unauthorized surcharges, as well
