Lot #739
MEXICO FRENCH SHIPS - 1871-72
1872 Cover from Veracruz, 17 February to Genova, franked with 12c Hidalgo, via the Ligne B packet "Guadeloupe" arriving St. Nazaire March 6th, with credit of 22 decimes to France, handstamped with the French exchange marking "F 30" for mail from the United States to Switzerland. This was applied in error, as a result of misreading the address "Genova" for "Geneva" (even then, "F29" would have been the correct mark for mail from Mexico). The cover arrived in Geneva, Switzerland on March 17th, was resent to Genova, arriving on March 18th where it was charged 2,20 lire postage due, applying pair of 10c and 2x1L adhesives. A great cover, ex-David Warham collection, illustrated in Mexican Maritime Mail (page 307)
