 | 586 |  |  |  | MEXICO BRITISH SHIPS - 1847-56 "Paid at Vera Cruz" 1857 Starting in 1857, the amount due from France for the British Service was based on units of 30 grams, rather than by individual piece. One France & 60c centimes was charged for 30 grams of mail from British Consular Agencies and indicated by the "GB 1F 60c" handstamp, which remained in effect until the creation of U.P.U. in 1875. A FL from Durango to Bordeaux, franked with a horizontal pair of 1r yellow, tied by a boxed August 17 departure datestamp (without year), via the "Solent" departing Tampico, August 30th for Veracruz, Havana, St.Thomas (September 15th), then per "Panama" to Southampton and France, arriving October 2nd with typical "GB 1f 60c" exchange marking, 8 decimes due, with transit and arrival pmks on back, fine |  | n/a |  | |  |
